The Munich Airport came to the world on 17 May 1992 - since then
the world comes to the airport. About 316 million passengers
have arrived in Munich by air since the opening day. Thanks to
its rapid growth, the Munich Airport has climbed from 14th place
to 7th place in the ranking of the European airports with the
most passenger frequencies. According to the current forecasts,
the growth trend will continue. Accordingly, the annual amount
of air passengers will increase from 30.8 million (2006) to
about 56 million by 2020. Through the expansion of the starting
and landing runway system the Flughafen München GmbH intends to
create the prerequisites so that the anticipated increase of
